Surat Municipal corporation earning Rs 140 crore by purifying river Tapi

Silk City of India (Surat) is earning around Rs 140 crore by purifying the river Tapi. This is being earned by treating the water and selling it to various industries. About 115 million litres per day (MLD) water is treated and supplied to industries and industrial associations. The network of sewage treatment plant in the city is 99.5%. “Surat has taken a lot of steps for Tapi river rejuvenation and cleanliness programme. We're providing 115 million litres per day (MLD) water to local industries and are generating revenue of Rs 140 crore from recycled water,” said Banchhanidhi Pani, Surat Municipal Commissioner to ANI. The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is planning to utilise this recycled water in other means as well, such as gardens, fountains.
