Timeline of farmers' protest: Fourth round of talks between Centre and farmer groups remains inconclusive

Agriculture minister Narendra Tomar urged farmers to end their agitation, assuring that Minimum Support Price (MSP) would not be touched.

The fourth round of talks between the Centre and representatives of 35 farmer groups failed to yield any results on Thursday, as the union leaders stuck to their demand for the repeal of the new farm laws.

The seven-hour meeting between the farmers and the Centre failed to end the deadlock over the farm laws. Union minister Narendra Tomar, who led the negotiations, said the government 'has no ego'.

Earlier in the day, the farmers refused lunch during the meet with the Government. 'They offered us food, we denied and are sticking to our langar which we have brought with us,' a farmer leader said. 

The next meeting has been scheduled for December 5. Agriculture minister Narendra Tomar urged farmers to end their agitation, assuring that Minimum Support Price (MSP) would not be touched.

Meanwhile groups of farmers continued to gathered in  large numbers around the Delhi borders. The police closed routes on two national highways connecting Ghaziabad to Delhi.

Parkash Singh Badal, Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab Chief Minister, has returned his Padma Bibhushan as a mark of solidarity with the protesting farmers againt the Central farm laws.

Ahead of the farmers' meeting on Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested both sides to resolve the issue.

The Delhi-Meerut Expressway was shut after there was a heavy traffic jam due to the incoming of tractors and trucks filled with farmers from Punjab who wanted to enter Delhi to join the protests.

Farmers are camped out at four busy entry points of the national capital - Singhu, Noida, Ghazipur and Tikri to press their demands.

After meeting ended, farmer leader Baldev Singh Sirsa said, 'We listed all drawbacks before government, they had to admit that there are drawbacks and they will make amendments. We said we don't want amendments but withdrawal of laws. We also demanded that MSP be implemented for certain and law should be made for it.'
