Kannada actress Ramya to put on a different hat for next film

After making fans fall in love with her all over again as Geetha (in Sanju Weds Geetha) and giving them a hangover with her sexy Padmavati act, actress Ramya is now all set to wear the garb of a crime reporter in a yet-to-be-titled project. “The story will revolve around a cop and a thief,” she says, adding, “However, the remaining cast is yet to be finalised.” Ramya is also looking to work with her Polladhavan director Vetrimaaran. “His Tamil film will go on floors next year and I am sure he won’t do it without me.”

But the good news is that you don’t have to wait till next year for her to come on screen, as her Sidlingu is up for release anytime soon. “I play Mangala, an unattractive government school teacher, in the film. Enacting the part was a pleasure.”

Then why was she initially apprehensive about being part of the film, if reports are to be believed? “My character was required to mouth certain ‘in your face’ dialogues with cuss words in them. I felt such dialogues wouldn’t go well with my image. But when I was given the second reading, the dialogues were toned down,” says Ramya.

But now, she is more than glad to have been part of it. “I got to spend quality time with school children during the shoot. And when children are around, little needs to be said about how fun the experience can be. At the same time I was also exposed to the apathy towards government schools. In fact, I met teachers who themselves are funding books and shoes of the students. My film unit also contributed to the cause. I took a liking to a particular girl and I plan to take care of her education,” adds the actor.

But that’s not all Ramya is up to. Her other film Lucky is also in the pipeline. “The story is about a girl and her dog. Kids will love the film and the dog will steal the show,” she feels.

With so many films in hand, does she find time for the politician in her? “After many letters and follow-ups I recently made sure that our Convent Road was repaired. Instead of complaining people should try taking responsibility. I tried and it worked!”
