Back in business, Gauri and Hiten Tejwani

Actor Gauri Tejwani admits that there were some initial teething problems after she decided to do business with her actor husband Hiten. But at the same time, she laughs it off when we tell her that being business partners with her husband is not that much of a good idea.

“I don’t think it will hamper anything. I think it is a good idea. It will help us in business, there’s no question of boredom setting in,” she says confidently even as husband Hiten butts in to say that they will be maintaining their respective careers as actors.

“Since we will be concentrating on our careers as actors we would not be seeing each other 24 hours a day. We will also be staying away from each other. I don’t think I could have trusted anybody more than my wife on this one,” says Hiten.

So, what inspired them to launch a business of their own other than the fact that the TV industry is going through a particular slump? “Yes, we have taken a franchise of Dino Morea’s cafe chain but it was not him who suggested that we start a franchise, we would give more credit to Dino’s brother (Nicolo Morea). He was the one who suggested that we should start a chain and it caught our fancy,” says Gauri.

Of course, it was Gauri and Hiten’s common passion for food that drove them to this venture. “You know something? Cooking at home and cooking at a restaurant are two different ball games. I guess I am better off cooking at home. I think that I can only give my inputs when it comes to food, I would prefer Hiten to do the honours when it comes to money and other business decisions,” she adds.

So what is next on their menu? A gourmet restaurant? “Yes of course, why not? We wanted to open a fine dine restaurant in Mumbai. Maybe, if this one does well then we will open another one very soon. Let’s pray for that,” Gauri signs off.
