Starting from a diploma in fashion and a Degree in Interior Design from Jaipur, His dreams of making his mark in entertainment sector took him to pursue his higher studies in Australia and learned film making there and worked on many international projects and returned as Indo-Australian Director Lom Harsh. A Multiple award winning film maker who has created his own space in Bollywood and on national and international film festival circuits through his art of film making. It’s a home coming from him as his debut film Yeh Hai India is nominated in international feature film competition category in JIFF 2019. We took some time out and brought a detailed interview on him and his journey so far.
Being from Rajasthan and participating in a Rajasthan’s own prestigious festival is like feeling at home. Journey of Yeh Hai India was really beautiful. As the producers and people behind the film all are from Rajasthan and Film was the pride and proud for India and Indian. Journey started from getting applauds at 70th Cannes Film Festival and later on getting awarded as Best Director and Best Film at San Fransisco, USA in International competition category is like a dream start for me.
No, its not true, film’s base line is from India but it loudly speaks about the rights and wrongs of the society. Importance of culture, value and ethics are always on top priority of any country’s agenda. Film’s highlight is the climax, which is violence vs Non-Violence and it strongly delivers the message of world peace in the end. It highlights how the citizen should behave, their duties and responsibilities towards the nation or whether it is the role, duties and responsibilities of Media of any nation. That is the reason why it won in America in International competition category among many other international contenders.
I take inspiration from surroundings and always keep my cinema closer to reality. This seed originated from a viral video upload by a Indian army soldier complaining about the food quality getting served. It clicked me instantly and I drafted a short but strong film around it and Titled it ‘Chicken Biryani’, and it got wonderful response at national and International film festivals. And so on we decided to convert it into the series and we made ‘Chicken Biryani 2’ and its currently on festival run and already won 3 best film and 7 selection and nominations so far.
Sincere efforts and Closer to reality approach. Good cinema and good content is the only key to success. Main Udna chahti hu is very close to my heart and always will be. It was based on women empowerment and the theme of ‘let the girl’s fly’. It went viral in no time and got tremendous resoponse from Audience. Organically it crossed 2 crore view on social media. I always explore my cinematic side and wanted to do some viral ad campaigns for good brands and a online educational portal approached me for same and that’s how we ended up doing Main Udna Chahti Hu and Chal Bandeya.
It was for my efforts in establishing peace through the work of cinema. All of the contents made by me so far are socially oriented and comes with a cause. I think cinema is the most powerful tool and it has a power to bring the major changes in a society or a nation. People follow fashion, décor or even the style they observe through cinema. So they found my content really inspiring for audience in real world. Its simple, in reel world I am creating real world. Feel good when your work is rewarded and you get recognisition.
My next feature film is based on Medical Profession. Again a content and real cinema. Role of Medical profession is really valuable in society but in today’s world these living gods are under the radar too. I think its time to bring the real out of the situation and present the profession in a realistic manner. Ultimately they are the ones who sometimes give us second chance to live. So far these Living Gods are presented in sarcastic manner or in negative shade or bad light. We all have some right and wrongs in us. But for some its not right to defame the entire profession. Other than that I will be keeing on doing something special for my state and its culture so a another feature is in pipeline too focusing specially on Rajasthan. Its time for Rajasthan and Rajasthani’s people to rise and shine too.
All good and content oriented cinema are always the first choice of film festivals. But sometime its really hard to see biased decision making. I think we should keep this track clean atleast as it really give oxygen to uprising talents and just for sake of making your near and dear happy, biased decisions not be taken. If you selected the films they you should watch atleast it and take a wiser call. I am some how lucky in that segment as my cinema is atleast getting watched but sometimes I also been the victim. Its not always the brighter light at the end of the tunnel.
My focus is entirely on uplifting the state’s art, culture and tourism by shooting most of my content here. We always keep space for Artists from the state and now in today’s digitalization era I think growth is much faster. If you are really serious about this profession whether it is as a actor, producer, investor or as a technicians you are welcome to join hands with us. Govt need to focus on the sector as it has a great potencial and also they should work on increasing total number of screens in state as we are the largest and most populative state but with least no of screens.
