MS Dhoni was dropped/rested from India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their home series against the West Indies and also for India’s T20I away series Down Under.

Dhoni retired from Test cricket in 2014 to concentrate on white-ball cricket and while his place in the World Cup 2019 looks to be safe more or less, that’s not the same in the shortest format.

Although BCCI Selection committee’s chief MSK Prasad has assured the fans that Dhoni’s T20I career is not finished yet and they have rested him so that they can try other wicketkeepers for the second keeper’s lot, the fans are not convinced yet.

Let’s look at some of the milestones the legendary former Indian captain has achieved in T20Is in his 12-year-old career, so far:

While India have played 103 T20Is so far, Dhoni has missed just 10 games out of those and with 93 T20Is under his belt, Dhoni has the most caps for India in the shortest format. Overall, he stands third on the list behind Shoaib Malik (104) and Kamran Akmal (99). PC: PTI

2. Led India to Inaugural World T20 title

When senior players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid did not believe in the 20-over format and opted to not play in the inaugural World T20 in 2007, BCCI risked India's chances by sending a young side with a new captain, Dhoni. That decision worked like a charm for Team India when Dhoni, who was just two years old in the international arena, led India to a historic victory in the tournament. He later went on to become the most successful captain-ever having won all the ICC trophies (World T20, World Cup, and Champions Trophy) and he also took India to the No. 1 rank in Tests in 2009. MS Dhoni sits on the top of the table with 87 dismissals ahead of Pakistan's Kamran Akmal (60 dismissals) and West Indies' Ramdin (56 dismissals). Considering the most number of dismissals in an innings, Dhoni has the joint-highest with Mohammad Shahzad with five dismissals in an innings each for the India and Afghanistan keeper. PC: PTI

The former India captain also holds the record for the most number of catches behind the wickets in the shortest format with 54 catches ahead of Ramdin 36 catches and South African Quinton de Kock with 34 catches. Meanwhile, with five catches, Dhoni also has the most catches in an innings of a T20I match. PC: PTI

Dhoni's lightening-fast stumpings are a well-known thing in the current era of T20 cricket and there are no surprises that he even holds the record for the most career stumpings in T20I cricket with 33 stumpings in his account ahead of Akmal (32) and Shahzad (28). PC: AFP
