Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar’s Kesari captures the Battle of Saragarhi on celluloid. The film is based on the historic event that took place in 1897 and is documented as one of the bravest battles ever fought. Even Google bears testimony to this fact. Centuries later, the audiences will get to see this fierce story on the big screen.

The Anurag Singh directorial is a true story of valour, sacrifice and patriotism. Talking about his March 21 release, Akshay, who plays the lead role in it, says, “I’m proud to be associated with Kesari. In Britain, people celebrate Saragarhi Day, but our kids have no idea about the war where 21 Sikh soldiers fought 10,000 invaders knowing they will die. They managed to kill 900. We are happy to see a fictitious film like 300, but don’t celebrate our real stories of bravery. I hope now the chapter of the Battle of Saragarhi is added to history books.”

Apoorva Mehta, CEO, Dharma Production, adds, “With the bravery and courage displayed by the 21 Sikhs coming onto the big screen, this film has given us the opportunity to bring forth these hidden pages of our history for our younger generations to experience and witness. This alone fills our hearts with pride that we get to narrate a story that impacts millions and salutes the unsung heroes of our country.’’ Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios, states, “It’s been our vision at Zee Studios to support great historical stories. With Kesari, we are happy to bring to life this lesser known, but significant story of bravery and valour.”

Speaking about why this tale needs to find a place in the curriculum, Sunir Kheterpal of Azure Films, says, “The germ of this story for us came through memories from the Saragarhi Memorial at Ferozepur. This is a story of valour we should be proud and aware of and what better way to accomplish that than to embed it in the curriculum at schools.”

Kesari, produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Sunir Kheterpal and presented by Zee Studios, releases tomorrow.
