‘Cops have been unfair’

The high court on Monday reserved its order on the appeal filed by the state seeking an enhancement of the six-month jail sentence awarded to Alistair Pereira. However, the court will continue to hear the PIL initiated through the suo motu proceedings of the court. Next to be quizzed are the cops who reached the spot first on November 12, 2006.

After hearing the defence’s arguments Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar said, “The police have been very unfair in this case.” At the last hearing, the HC had demanded a site plan made by the first investigating officer at the scene, Meenakshi Patil. A pencil sketch was submitted on Monday. The HC was disappointed and CJ Kumar said, “These facts cannot be reconciled with the case of the prosecution,” said CJ Kumar.
