Porbandar MLA said Kausarbi was murdered to destroy evidence of Soharabuddin's fake encounter.
The Congress has launched an attack on chief minister Narendra Modi, alleging that Modi is practising "politics of murder".
"Kausarbi and Tulsi Prajapati were murdered with a view to destroying the evidence of Soharabuddin's fake encounter," said former leader of opposition and Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia. He was addressing a news conference in the city on Monday.
According to Modhwadia, police inspector VL Solanki who was in charge of the inquiry of Soharabuddin encounter case had recorded the statement of Apte couple, who were co-passengers of Soharabuddin and Kausarbi, from Maharashtra. Solanki had come to know that one person who owned mobile number 98240-43961 was also in the bus and occupied seat number 18.
"This person got down from the bus with Soharabuddin and Kausarbi at the behest of Gujarat police.''
The Gujarat police have told the Supreme Court that the third person could be Kalimuddin from Hyderabad or Tulsi Prajapati.
"However, the state CID (Crime) team probing the case under the leadership of Geetha Johri did not get into the details of the owner of mobile number 98240-43961. Otherwise, the identity of the person could have been revealed," said Modhwadia.
The then head of CID (Crime) OP Mathur did not permit Solanki to visit Rajasthan to record the statements of Tulsi Prajapati. "Mathur was rewarded by making him the vice-chancellor of Defence University of Gujarat,'' the Congress leader said.
Rajnish Rai, who handled the case for some time, had noted in his diary that Rajkumar Pandian had put pressure on him to change the statement of Apte couple as it could go against Pandian. Moreover, the witnesses of the farm, where Kausarbi was murdered, were forced to change their statements under pressure from the then DSP of Gandhinagar. Rai had again noted in his diary that Pandian had visited him in person and asked him to change the statements of the Apte couple, said Modhwadia.
