Thieves broke into as many as seven houses in a posh housing society in Prahladnagar area of Ahmedabad, late on Thursday night. The burglars were able to steal valuables from six houses but failed to rob the seventh as it had a security alarm system. Strangely, despite the robbery, no one from the society has bothered to lodge a complaint with the police.

Sharad Jasani, the owner of the bungalow with the security alarm, is a textile manufacturer. Jasani told DNA that he was sleeping on the first floor of the bungalow when the security alarm went off. He immediately got a call on his mobile phone from Mumbai where the head office of the security system provider is located.

Cynthia Gokhale, head (marketing), Zycom, spoke to DNA over phone from Mumbai. Zycom is the provider of the security system at Jasani’s house. Gokhale said the system connected to Jasani’s house was linked to the company’s control room in Mumbai.

“As soon as there was breach of security at Jasani’s house, people in our control room, which functions round the clock, phoned him,” she said.

Jasani said that on the basis of the quantity of valuables that was stolen from different houses, it could be said that 10-12 thieves were involved in the burglary. “They had targeted the houses one by one,” Jasani said. “I may have been the last one to be raided.”
The burglars had escaped with silver coins, ornaments, cash and valuable articles from other bungalows, Jasani said.

He further said that this was the second burglary in the society but this time members had decided not to file a police complaint as they have no faith in cops.
