The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was exhibiting a 'fake concern' for the striking MCD workers in Delhi, and alleged that the latter was politicising the matter.

"Rahul Gandhi has gone there to show 'fake concern' and is indulging in politics on this matter," Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that Rahul meets people for the sake of meeting and does not actually solve their problems.

"Rahul Gandhi is in meeting protocol mode. He only meets people, but does not take it to the logical end," Patra said.

Rahul Gandhi earlier in the day joined striking sanitation workers' dharna outside the East Delhi Municipal Corporation headquarters and slammed both the Delhi Government and the Centre for not solving their problems.

Massive amounts of garbage are piled up in various parts of the city after the sanitation workers in Delhi went on a strike because of non-payment of salaries for the last three months.

Last week, Arvind Kejriwal had said that his government would release Rs. 500 crores to Delhi's civic bodies to clear the pending salaries of MCD workers.

One has to take note of the fact that, even though the Delhi Government is run by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the control of the municipalities lie with the BJP.
