The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has directed RNS Infrastructure Limited, which is undertaking various road-widening projects, to complete the work within three months.

During an inspection on Friday, the chairman of BBMP’s standing committee on major works H Ravindra asked the concerned officials to take necessary steps so that the widened roads are available for public in three months.

The committee first visited Begur Tank Bund Road, which connects Hosur Road and Bannerghatta Road. The existing 1-km road of 6.5 m width is being widened to 18 m at an estimated cost of Rs7.38 crore as it is causing traffic congestion. The BBMP is acquiring properties through TDR to land owners.

The committee then inspected Hulimavu-Begur Road which is being widened to 24 m from 12 m at a cost of Rs3.92 crore. DLF which has a township in the area has provided Rs4 crore for the project. It also purchased private properties and transferred them to the BBMP through relinquish deed. The project started on November 8, 2010 and 30% of work is already complete. Ravindra said the BBMP was not spending any amount there.

The committee also inspected Tayappa Garden Road which is currently 18 m width. It will be widened to 24 m at cost of Rs2.25 crore.
The road at Arekere Main, due to its current width of 7.5 m is causing traffic problem. The road is being widened to 24 m at a cost of Rs4.14 crore. About 55% of work has been completed.

Ravindra announced that Begur Lake would be developed as a tourism spot.
