Duke Riley strapped 2000 pigeons with LEDs and set them free, and it was beautiful.
As darkness fell over the Brooklyn Navy Yard, once the home to a largest naval fleet of carrier pigeons, artist Duke Riley opened a massive coop releasing about 2000 pigeons strapped with LEDs.
Riley's initiative was a part of an art project called "Fly By Night", set out to commemorate the significance of pigeons in the lives of New Yorkers.
As soon as the coop was opened, the whistle sounded and 2000 LED lights soared into the night sky, like fireflies trained to control their flight. The show went on for 30 minutes, on Thursday, over the deck of a decommissioned US Navy ship.
Watch art evolve into newer forms and light up the darkness in one of the most beautiful endeavours of recent times, in this video by the Reuters.
