FIFA Best Player 2018: Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mo Salah, Kylian Mbappe and other contenders

These 10 players will be in contention for The Best FIFA Men's Player of the year.

FIFA has announced the 10 nominees for the best player of year awards. While the nominees include usual suspects like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo,  new names like Kylian Mbappe and Mo Salah will also be contenders this year. Luka Modric and Harry Kane also feature in the list. However, Neymar is one notable ommission.  

The winner will be announced at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in London on Sept. 24. Here's the official list of FIFA Best Men's Player 2018 nominees.

1. Harry Kane

Harry Kane (Tottenham and England): England's youngest World Cup captain was the top scorer in Russia with six goals. He led England to the semifinals. Kane was the second best striker in the PL with 30 goals for Tottenham Hostpur. Kane is one of the very best strikers in the world right now. (Image: Reuters)

Luka Modric (Real Madrid and Croatia): One of the best midfielders of this age, Modric led his team to the FIFA World Cup 2018 final. He was the best player winning the Golden Ball. He also won the Champions League with Real Madrid this season. (AFP)

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool and Egypt): The Premier League top scorer looks one of the strongest candidates. Salah scored 44 goals for Liverpool in a fantastic debut season. Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid and France): It was not a easy season for Antoine Griezmann. However, he ended it with winning the World Cup with France and the Europa League with Atletico Madrid. Griezmann scored 29 goals for Atleti last season. He was the best player in the World Cup final, scoring a goal and sending in a free kick that resulted in an own goal. (Image: AFP)

6. Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain and France):  The young player is the talk of the town these days. The 19-year-old became a World Cup and Ligue 1 winner this season. He is already being is called the next GOAT. (Reuters)

Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid and Portugal): Ronaldo is 33 but he is getting better at age. He was truly sensational for Real Madrid for the last season leading them to the Champions League title. He scored 44 goals in 44 matches for the club before switching to Juventus. Ronaldo also scored four goals in four matches at the FIFA World Cup 2018 for Portugal. (Image: AFP)

Eden Hazard (Chelsea and Belgium): Eden Hazard led Belgium to their best ever FIFA World Cup finish. He also scored 17 goals for Chelsea in a difficult season. He may head for Barcelona or Real Madrid before the start of the next season. (Image: AFP)
