Defending Champions Mohun Bagan failed to keep the Fed Cup trophy in Kolkata as they slumped to a defeat by two goals to Bengaluru FC. Bengaluru had dominated proceedings right from the beginning and Udanta Singh was the live wire on the left. For the first ten minutes Sony Norde did not get hold of the ball and was cautioned during the early minutes when he lost his cool and pushed Khabra to the ground.
Mohun Bagan slowly grew back into the game with the likes of Daryl Duffy and Katsumi Yusa. The green-maroon brigade was all over Bengaluru in the final 10 minutes of the first half.
In the second half, it was end to end stuff as both teams let go off their defensive shackles. Chances fell thick and fast but none of them bulged the nets for both teams.
But it was substitute CK Vineeth who hurled the decisive blows when it mattered the most. His first goal was of a deflection of Bagan defender Anas and his second was a solo effort, which put the nail in the coffin.
While this match marks the end of the season for Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru still has something to do on the continental front as their last match in the group has turned to a must-win after their 1-3 loss to Mohun Bagan.
