Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday will dedicate the renovated Jallianwala Bagh Smarak complex in Amritsar to the nation. PM Modi will inaugurate this revamped complex via video conferencing. It is a memorial to those who were martyred in the infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre on April 13, 1919. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate new museum galleries constructed at the site.
According to a release by the government, four galleries have been created at the Jallianwala Bagh Smarak complex which will showcase the events that took place in Punjab via an audio-visual medium. The Shaheedi well at the Jallianwala Bagh, which witnessed the horrific scenes of the massacre has also been restored and redefined with a superstructure.
Modern technologies such as projection mapping and 3D representation along with art and sculptural installations have been installed. A Sound and Light show has been set up to display the events that took place in Jallianwala Bagh on April 13, 1919.
"Four museum galleries have been created through adaptive reuse of redundant and underutilised buildings. The galleries showcase the historical value of events that unfolded in Punjab during that period, with the fusion of audio-visual technology, including projection mapping and 3D representation, as well as art and sculptural installations," a government statement read.

2. Memorial for martyrs of infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre
The complex is in memory of the indiscriminate killing of unarmed people who had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh 102 years ago to protest the arrest of nationalist leaders Dr Satyapal and Saifuddin Kichlew over their agitation against the Rowlatt Act.

3. General Dyer ordered troops to fire at unarmed crowd
On April 13, 1919, on the day of Baisakhi, Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer marched his troops into the Jallianwala Bagh where peaceful protests were being held and ordered his troops to fire into the unarmed crowd at the garden. Many people jumped into a large well in the garden, to escape the firing but died of drowning inside the well. It is now called the Shaheedi Well.

4. Shaheedi well has been repaired and restored
The Shaheedi well has been repaired and restored with a redefined superstructure. The heart of the Bagh, the flame monument, has been repaired and restored, the water body rejuvenated as a lily pond, and the pathways made broader for better navigability. Audio nodes have also been installed throughout the garden.
Key spots at the complex have also been illuminated while newer areas have been developed for housing the 'Salvation Ground' and the Amar Jyoti (an immortal flame).

6. PM Modi to e-launch complex on Saturday evening
PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the revamped complex at 6:25 pm in the evening on Saturday and the ceremony will be live-streamed on BJP's several social media handles. The Union ministers of culture and housing and urban affairs, ministers of state for culture, the Governor and Chief Minister of Punjab will be attending the e-launch.
