Martyred Army jawan Aurangzeb's father likely to join BJP during PM Modi's Feb 3 visit to Jammu

Rifleman Aurangzeb was abducted and killed by terrorists in Pulwama June last year when he was on his way home for Eid celebrations.

Father of martyred Indian Army jawan Aurangzeb is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir on February 3. 

Rifleman Aurangzeb was abducted by terrorists at Kalampora in Pulwama June last year when he was on his way home for Eid celebrations. He was later found dead at Gussu village.

Sources told Zee Media that Mohammad Haneef, Aurangzeb's father and a former sepoy of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, will join the BJP on February 3. He is a resident of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. 

According to sources, several BJP leaders have met Hanief and his name has been sent to party president Amit Shah for approval.

Prime Minister Modi will be in the state to inaugurate projects worth more than Rs 41,000 crore and address a public rally and panchayat members during his visit to all the three regions — Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu — on February 3. A massive massive public rally is planned in Vijaypur of Jammu where Haneif is likely to be inducted in the party. The BJP is mobilising two lakh people for the rally, which is seen as a precursor for the forthcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Aurangzeb was abducted and killed by terrorists in Pulwama on June 14 when he was on his way home in Rajouri district for Eid celebrations. Aurangzeb, who belonged to 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and was posted at the 44 Rashtriya Rifles camp at Shadimarg in Shopian, was found dead by a team of police and Army at Gussu village, about 10 km away from Kalampora, in Pulwama district. He was shot in his head and neck, police said.

A day after the killing, the terrorists released a 1.15-minute video in which they are heard questioning the Aurangzeb about the encounters. “Yes I am a rifleman and my duty was on the post,” Aurangzeb was seen replying to an abductor's question, who was not visible in the video.

The killing of Aurangzeb in June last year had triggered a massive outrage in the state and the country. Top BJP leaders including Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had visited his house at the time. Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina and other BJP leaders also met Aurangzeb's family in Salani village in Poonch district and condoled his death.
