Lost your Aadhaar card? Don't worry - follow these steps and get a new one

Aadhaar card is by far the most important personal document that we have and we require this identity proof in every walk of life. Aadhaar is used for host of services like applying for Permanent Account Number, used for passport documentation, filing income tax return (ITR), mutual fund investment and much more. It has been used by the Modi government to bring transparency and efficiency. 

This means that in no ways we can afford to lose it. However, if at all such a situation comes that we lose our Aadhaar card then instead of panicking what should we do?

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has got us covered and will provide you with a copy of your lost Aadhaar card once you have performed some important steps. An online facility provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) enables users to retrieve their lost Enrolment ID (EID). 

An EID is a unique identification number issued to an Aadhaar enrollee at the time of registration. This number is used to track an Aadhaar application. Users can retrieve a lost EID or Aadhaar number online, either through the UIDAI website uidai.gov.in or mobile app mAadhaar. 

Your registered Mobile Number / Email which you had provided at the time of enrolment is mandatory to retrieve your lost UID / EID.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to retrieve a lost Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID using this UIDAI facility.

1. Tap on 'My Aadhaar'

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has got us covered and will provide you with a copy of your lost Aadhaar card once you have performed these steps. First, go to the UIDAI website. Once you are on the website, you will see various options, out of which you need to tap on the 'My Aadhaar' option.

Now, you need to select the 'Retrieve lost or forgotten EID/UID' option. You will be taken to a new page where you need to enter some of your details.

 

3. Can enter your email ID in place of mobile number

The details include the Aadhaar Card number (UID), the Enrollment number (EID) that was allotted to you when you got enrolled, your full name and mobile number. If you wish to get your lost Aadhaar card without a mobile number, you can enter your email ID as well.

4. Use the mAadhaar app

Now, you will be required to enter the CAPTCHA provided below the aforementioned sections. Once entered, select either the 'Send OTP' or the 'Enter TOTP' option. The former will require you to enter the OTP received on your registered phone number while the latter will require you to use the mAADHAAR app to get the Time-Based-One-Time-Password

 

5. Pay nominal amount of Rs 50

Once all the required details are entered, you will be directed to a payment gateway where you will be required to pay a nominal amount of Rs 50 after entering your payment details. 

 

6. Receive Aadhaar card copy via Speed Post within 15 days

Once the payment is done, you have successfully applied for a hard copy of your Aadhaar card. This you will receive via Speed Post within 15 days.

Your registered Mobile Number / Email which you had provided at the time of enrolment is mandatory to retrieve your lost UID / EID.
