Review: 'Boss' is 'Don', Sandalwood style

Film: Boss (Kannada)
Director: Raghuraj
Cast: Darshan, Rekha, Navya Nair, Rangayana Raghu
Rating: ***

When Darshan’s film Boss took off in 2008, there was enough and more curiosity over the film. Debutant director Raghuraj’s story seems to be inspired by Don and Billa, in one sense, but has its own charm. Darshan has the perfect story to comeback with a winner after a few box office duds.

The story has all the elements of a mass entertainer. The hero, who plays a double role, has two opposite personalities, one of the affable ruffian and the other the suave gentleman. He has two girls to romance, one is the sexy, glam doll, while the other is the local flower seller. There’s a touch of family sentiments as well, with a doting mother in the picture. And the comedy track with Rangayana Raghu is just what the front benchers will enjoy.

This story has its own flavour and the director, along with producer Ramesh Yadav, has left nothing to make it look good. The climax especially is stylish and gives the feel of a good Hollywood thriller. Darshan has excelled in this tailor-made script. The two heroines play their parts well. Rangayana Raghu’s role entertains with its multiple shades. The music deserves a special mention, especially the title track, Classigu Massigu Boss, is very catchy. Watch this one and be entertained.
