Review: 'Loot' is so silly it’s unbearable

What could have been an entertaining and perky comedy turns out to be silly and unbearable even in the first half.

Review: 'Loot' is so silly it’s unbearable
Film: Loot (U/A)
Cast:
Govinda, MahaakshayChakraborty, JaavedJaaferi, SunielShetty, Ravi Kissen& others
Director:
 Rajneesh Thakur
Rating: ½ a star

Loot has an Anna Hazare connection. Please don’t say no, not Anna again, not here at least. If you are wondering if Loot deals with black money, corruption and such evils plaguing society, think again. The Anna connection has to do with RakhiSawant’s raunchy Jawani Ki Bank song which rolls out when the end credits roll in.

It’s possible you will be looted off all interest and patience by the time Jawani Ki Bank appears, and that’s why we have YouTube. For those who are still interested, read on…

Four smalltime conmen Builder (SunielShetty), Pandit (Govinda), Wilson (MahaakshayChakraborty) and Akbar (Javed) are sent to Pattaya, Bangkok, to pull off a seemingly easy robbery. Unusual turn of events lands the boys in a bland Thai soup, with Mahesh Manjrekar, Ravi Kissen, Kim Sharma and singer Mika as appetisers, one more unexciting and insipid than the other.

With nothing much of a story or narrative to take forward, director Rajneesh Thankur relies on wordplay and puns for dialogue, which veteran comedians Govinda and Javed rattle off, but fail miserably.

None, absolutely no one, in this multi-starrer caper manages to do anything worth writing home about.

If you’re wondering why MahaAkshay’s role is being ignored in this review, may we inform he’s thoroughly miscast. He’s supposed to be a goonda you should be scared of. His awkward body language and dialogue delivery are not in congruence of the image he’s needed to portray. His only claim to fame could be the day when a question like ‘How many times does Wilson say ‘Man’ in the movie Loot?’ makes it to an obscure film quiz.

Mika makes a decent attempt at acting, while Kim Sharma looks desperate to recreate the magic of her Mohabattein days. The music, editing or the cinematography too are easily forgettable.

What could have been an entertaining and perky comedy turns out to be silly and unbearable even in the first half. A total waste of resources, watch Loot at your own risk.
