Mayank Markande made his India debut on Sunday against Australia in the first One-Day International (ODI).

Markande was included in the team when India announced squads for the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series and two-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Australia.

While the squads were pretty much as expected, the only surprise element came in the form of the 21-year-old spinner, Mayank Markande.  The leg-break spinner, Markande, first came into the limelight when he bagged his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) contract last year with the Mumbai Indians.  Ever since then, the youngster has lived up to the expectations, especially for his state team, Punjab.

Markande Mayank, who started off as a fast bowler, apparently had mastered the art of bowling the back-of-the-hand slower delivery but then his coach suggested he could be a more effective leg spinner. Hence, he converted Markande's slower ball into a fine googly and the decidion has turned out to be the best for the youngster. PC: Twitter
