Soon after they complete providing security for polls to be held in the state, 1800 State Reserve Police personnel will be deputed to provide security in Rajasthan and Punjab, police officials said.

Fifteen companies of the SRPF, five from Pune and 10 from Nagpur, will depart for Rajasthan on May 3 to provide security for the polls on May 7. Each company consists of 120 persons.

Soon after that the personnel will travel to Punjab to provide security for the polls there on May 13. The force from the SRPF would be under the command of DIG SM Sayyed and SPs K Khalil and Brijesh Singh.

"This time there will be no companies from the Mumbai SRPF since they will be going to other regions of the state like Konkan during polls in Maharashtra and would be required during the third phase of polling here as well," an official said.

This would not be the first time that Maharashtra SRPF have provided support to other police forces during polls, and have provided assitance during the last assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Punjab in the past, the official said.
