Sharmila Tagore, Saif and Kareena were recently shooting at the same location for their  respective films, reports Chaitanya Padukone

MUMBAI: It was definitely a straight lift from the saas-bahu serials. A prospective mom-in-law, the son and the prospective daughter-in-law, all stars in their own right, shooting at the same location.

We are talking about Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore.

Saif and Kareena were completing the remaining shots of Tashan, while Sharmila was shooting for Nagesh Kukunoor’s 8 x 10 co-starring Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Takia.

Curiously enough, Saif’s studio make-up room which was opposite that of Kareena’s is just a few feet away from mama Sharmila’s room.

However, during the break Saif preferred an open-air chat with Bebo just outside his studio-stage whilst the shot was being readied.

Though Sharmila or Kareena never said a courtesy ‘hi’ to each other while the shoot was on, the case was different for Saif’s 12-year old daughter Sara who was there with Saif. She just couldn’t resist  being pampered by her ‘grandma’.
So, she barges into her make-up room only to be cuddled by her badi-amma.

How does she react to the news of her actor son’s much-hyped affair with Bebo and Soha’s proximity with actor Siddharth (of Rang De Basanti fame)?

“I trust my children’s judgement and decisions. It is their life, so let them enjoy their independence.  As long as they accept the responsibility of their decisions, it’s fine with me. Whenever they need me, I am there for them,” said the yesteryears superstar.

The Censor Board chief talks about being a judge of a reality music show (Dhoom Macha De) and says that she actually asked her granddaughter first for “permission”.

“Since Sara is among my blunt critics, I bounced off on her this offer of being a reality judge. So she shot back with, “Badi-amma what do you know about music’?

But hadn’t she had turned down the offer? “That’s true. Initially I had refused the reality TV show offer. Because air-dashing to Mumbai every  week for almost four days, for six months, would be too hectic for me. But my husband Mansoor saab was supportive when I discussed it with him and he insisted that I take it up.”

Wasn’t it a tough task for  the Censor Board chairperson to evaluate  seasoned singers, because she is not formally trained in music?  “Not really. My co-judges Shankar Mahadevan and Prasoon Joshi  are a vital support for me in judging each performance. At times we communicate to the contestants with our facial expressions and gestures. And  they are getting smarter and better after each performance,” Sharmila signed off.
