CHHABEWAL: Monica Bedi, the companion of gangster Abu Salem who was released on bail from a Hyderabad prison on Wednesday, is set to make her first visit in nine years to her native village here.
Bedi, released on bail from the Hyderabad jail where she was held in connection with a fake passport case, last visited her ancestral village in 1998 to attend her brother's marriage.
Shortly after her release, Bedi set off for her village from Hyderabad with her father Prem Kumar Bedi and uncle Purshottam.
Chhabewal has a population of around 5,000 and is located on the Balachaur-Hoshiarpur highway in Haryana.
In the Doaba belt of Haryana, almost every household has one or more members staying abroad and Bedi's family is no exception, with most of her relatives living in Norway.
Bedi, who acted with stars like Sanjay Dutt and Govinda, was born on January 18,1975 in Chhabewal. Her father, a registered medical practitioner, migrated to Norway with his family when she was only a few months old.
She was expected here last week but her release from jail was delayed as she failed to deposit her passport in a Hyderabad court as directed by the Supreme Court.
Elated over her release from jail, Bedi said: "I want to spent some time with my family in my native place inHoshiyarpur in Punjab. Later, I will decide about my future."
It is not yet known how long she would stay in Chhabewal.
Sudarshan Dhir, the general secretary of Chabbewal Shopkeepers Union, said he and other residents of the village were eagerly awaiting Bedi's arrival.
When contacted, SSP Anita Punj said district police had not received any request from Bedi's family or got any instructions from the authorities about making security arrangements for Bedi during her stay in the village.
"In case any instruction or request is received, adequate security will be provided to Bedi," she said.
