NEW DELHI: The President, Vice President and Prime Minister on Sunday paid tributes to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 89th birth anniversary.

A wreath was laid on behalf of President A P J Abdul Kalam at the Shakti Sthal memorial of the late premier.

Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi visited Shakti Sthal to offer their respects to the memory of the country's first woman prime minister.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil, late leader's grandson Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Lt Gov B L Joshi and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit also offered floral tributes at the memorial as religious hymns were played in the background.

Gandhi's birth anniversary is celebrated as National Integration Day.

At the Parliament House, parliamentarians paid tributes to the departed leader.

Prime Minister Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Congress chief Gandhi, union ministers Pranab Mukherjee, A K Antony and Murli Deora, MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha paid floral tributes at the portrait of the late premier.
