The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has started a scheme from September 1, under which frequent travellers on the 72 Shivneri Volvo buses will get 50% concession on every sixth journey that they undertake. These journeys will have to be within a period of two months and on the same route.
Corporation vice-chairman and managing director Deepak Kapoor told DNA that they are trying to take the load factor of the Shivneri Volvo from the present 74% to 79%. “On most of the Shivneri Volvo routes, our closest competition is with the Railways, which offers air-conditioned chair cars on the Dadar-Pune route. The MSRTC chose this scheme after a three-month survey was conducted,” Kapoor said.
Kapoor explained that the MSRTC will be issuing an I-card, free of cost, to the passengers who avail of this scheme. This I-card will not be transferable and any changes made on it will be invalid. The concession will be applicable only for the fare and not for the reservation charge.
