Man duped of Rs10,000 with ‘cheap’ iPhone in Pune

An unidentified person duped Amar Indrajit Sharma, 34,, an employee of a software company, of Rs10,000 by offering him an iPhone at a low price and instead handing over a piece of soap in a box.

An unidentified person duped Amar Indrajit Sharma, 34,, an employee of a software company, of Rs10,000 by offering him an iPhone at a low price and instead handing over a piece of soap in a box on Saturday near the Pune regional transport office (RTO).

Sharma, a resident of Sainath Chowk in Kharadi, lodged a complaint at the Bundgarden police station. The police said Sharma had gone to receive a friend at the Pune railway station. They were approached by the suspect.

The police told DNA, “The suspect offered to sell his Apple iPhone at Rs10,000 as he urgently needed the money. Sharma and his friend went to the ICICI Bank ATM, withdrew the cash and handed it over to the suspect.” Sharma went home happily, only to find a piece of soap in the box.

Police sub-inspector SB Waghmare said, “Sharma has provided us with the registration number of the motorcycle: MH 12 AJ 306. We are trying to trace the owner.”

Man held for killing father
Kumar Shankar Khude, 56, was allegedly beaten to death by his son and three others on Saturday. The deceased was a resident of Range Hills. The deceased’s daughter, Sushma Thombare, 31, a resident of Budhwar Peth lodged an FIR at the Khadki police station against her brother, Sumit, 25, a resident of Wadarwadi; his wife Aarti; Sumit’s brother-in-law, Kishor Devkule, 20; and sister-in-law, Mina. Sumit and Kishor were arrested. The women are absconding.

Bank customer duped
A teacher, Amruta Kulkarni, 28, was conned of Rs12,000 by an unidentified person, who offered to help her count the notes at a bank. Kulkarni withdrew Rs39,000 from her account at Bank of Maharashtra’s Ganeshnagar branch.
