If you are among those flummoxed by the hot ‘n’ cold October weather, here is some sunshine on the situation.

The city, due to its coastal location, usually enjoys a high level of humidity all the year round. But a sudden drop has been witnessed in humidity over the past few days, with Colaba recording 67% and Santa Cruz a very low 44%.

“A drop in humidity tends to increase the maximum daytime temperature and decrease the minimum night-time temperature,” said a weather bureau official. “This is why there is a bigger difference in the two temperatures.”

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature recorded at Colaba was 36.7ºC while the minimum was 24.1ºC. The maximum temperature recorded at Santa Cruz was 35.3ºC while the minimum was a low 19.7ºC. “Though the minimum temperature is about three degrees below normal, there is still time for winter to officially set in,” said the official.
