The Karnataka high court on Monday had directed the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) to submit documents regarding the power supply to Bangalore, and urban and rural areas.

The court demanded the details after GR Mohan, a city-based attorney filed a civil contempt petition against KPTCL officials.

The division bench comprising justice NK Patil and justice AS Bopanna directed KPTCL officials to furnish documents the KPTCL had submitted last month in the civil petition.

The organisation had filed a counter petition that they had been giving 22 hours of power supply to Bangalore city and 20 hours of power to other urban areas and 12 hours of power supply to the rural areas. Hence the division bench directed the KPTCL officials to furnish the documents by next Monday.

The high court had directed the KPTCL and the state government on March 23 to ensure regular supply as power cut might hinder students who were preparing for exams.

Directions were also given to take all steps to increase the power supply to the farming community by two extra hours.

Mohan filed the petition against BM Chandrashekar, the KPTCL financial adviser and SJ Sampathkumar, under secretary of energy department, contending that the power situation in Bangalore is worse after the elections and load shedding lasts for up to six hours every day.
