The Bangalore University, which is facing allegations of corrupt practices in the conduct of examinations and evaluation process, has decided to act tough against erring custodians.
A syndicate meeting held on Monday also decided to set up a committee headed by its member CK Jagadish Prasad to monitor the evaluation process. At a recent academic council meeting, it was alleged that some of the custodians were taking money to pass students. “We can make surprise visits to any of the evaluation centres and question the custodians,” Prasad said.
Meantime, the university has taken back the custodians against whom there were allegations.
RK Somashekar, registrar, evaluation, said: “We got direction from higher education department and acted accordingly. We have changed all the erring centres and are issuing notices to them.”
Somashekar’s name figured among the suspects involved in the corrupt practices at Monday’s syndicate meeting.
Most members demanded that Somashekar should go on leave and vice-chancellor Rangaswamy should take action against him. Rangaswamy said he had no powers to take such action.
