Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg extended her support to the farmers protesting on the borders of New Delhi against the three farm laws saying that she stands in solidarity with the farmers.

"We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India," Thunberg wrote on Twitter on February 2.

The teen activist's post on the micro-blogging site came after Rihanna shared a news article highlighting the Centre's crackdown on the farmers by cutting off internet services in many regions.

"Why aren't we talking about this?!", wrote Rihanna, as she added the hashtag #FarmersProtest along with the post on the micro-blogging site.

For the unversed, farmers have been protesting on the different borders of the national capital since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Meanwhile, on the evening of February 3, in a "toolkit" document shared by Thunberg on Twitter, she called RSS-BJP a "fascistic ruling party". The document is titled - "#ASKINDIAWHY Global Farmers Strike First Wave Will you be part of the largest protest in Human History?"

The document lists pointers which are proof of the fact that the international propaganda against India and the ruling government is a well chalked out plan that is taking shape since January 26, 2020.

But who is Greta Thunberg? And why is she been heard and followed by the media so closely both nationally and internationally? Here's a brief profile of the teenager.

In the year 2018, Thunberg began the school climate strikes and public speeches came to be internationally recognized as a climate activist. Thunberg was in the ninth grade when she began her activism. In August 2018, Greta demanded that the Swedish government reduce carbon emissions in accordance with the Paris Agreement. Thunberg would protest by sitting outside the Riksdag every day for three weeks during school hours with the sign Skolstrejk för klimatet (school strike for climate). Soon, other activists joined Greta and her strikes attracted public attention. She then went on from protesting solo to organising demonstrations throughout Europe and made several high-profile speeches which led to her become a social media star as well. Gradually, Greta's strikes were restricted to Fridays only. She inspired students across the globe to take part in the strike and turned into an international climate activist within a short span of time.

From giving a speech at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24) in 2018 and World Economic Forum in 2019 to addressing various parliaments such as the British, European and French, Greta has made her mark with exemplary speeches taking forward her cause for climate change. She is also one of the few who has met Pope Francis and in that short meet of the two, the latter apparently thanked her and encouraged her to continue.

Greta had already received international recognition, but the climate activist shot to fame with her 'How Dare You' speech which she delivered at the UN Action Climate Summit in 2019. At the summit, Greta, along with a few other students, announced they had made an official complaint against five nations that are not on track to meet the emission reduction targets they committed to in their Paris Agreement pledges: Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, and Turkey.

In a savage social media revenge, Swedish environment activist Greta Thunberg had mocked former US President Donald Trump in his own words amid the tensions over the results of the US presidential election in 2020.

In response to Trump's "stop the count" tweet, the then 17-year-old had said on the micro-blogging platform : "So ridiculous. Donald must work on his anger management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill, Donald, Chill."

Thunberg's tweet was the exact copy of the one that Trump posted in December 2019 criticizing the Time magazine's decision to name her "Person of the Year".

This year's Nobel Peace Prize could go to green campaigner Greta Thunberg and the Fridays for Future movement to highlight the link between environmental damage and the threat to peace and security, some experts say.
