Catch all the action live from Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference today.

Live Apple WWDC 2016: Another year, and Apple has big plans in store
Apple WWDC 2016

Apple is hosting its annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) this year, beginning with a keynote address from the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

While it's unlikely we'll see any new hardware this time around, we can expect a boatload of software tweaks, ranging from the minor to the game-changing. Leaks ahead of the event have suggested an upgraded Siri will be the main focus of the keynote, including the digital assistant making its way from iOS to OS X.  You can catch Apple's live stream on a dedicated channel on Apple TV, or on the Safari browser on OS X (10.8.5 and above) and iOS devices (iOS 6 and above), or a PC with Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 here.

The main event begins at 10:30pm (IST) tonight, so be sure to join us as we go live with all the updates. And for those of you hankering for more, we'll be diving into all those juicy updates all morning tomorrow.

And it looks like that's the end of WWDC 2016. To be fairly honest, laying off hardware teases was probably a bad idea. It ended up highlighting that Apple really had barely anything innovative to show. Of course, if you feel differently, tweet us @dna with #dnaTech and let us know what you liked (or hated) about WWDC 2016. And stay tuned tomorrow for all the update teardowns we'll have for you.

12:22 AM
12:18 AM

This looks very similar to Microsoft's Blockly, that uses Minecraft to teach coding basics. It's even got the same "help the protagonist" puzzle feel.

12:17 AM
12:14 AM

New iPad app called Swift Playground. It helps users learn to code using Swift.

12:13 AM

Developer Preview for iOS 10 out today, public beta in July. You can expect the update later this year.

12:11 AM

And now we're hitting on what's been a sore topic lately: privacy. Eddy Cue is stressing that all the AI features are based on your iPhone, not cloud.

"When it comes to performing analysis of your data, we're doing it on your devices, keeping your personal data under your control."

12:10 AM

Mac and Apple Watch can receive the new messages but can't send in that style.

12:07 AM

Yup. Apple is going bot too. You can order food, make purchases, and transfer money to people from within iMessage.

And for some reason, there seems to be an entire app store for what looks like mostly stickers. This is most certainly overkill. I know Facebook Messenger and Snapchat are huge competitors but come one guys.

12:07 AM
12:04 AM

Ooh. Messages are being opened to developers. You can swipe up from the bottom to access an app drawer with compatible apps. This feels like it's moving into payments territory.

12:03 AM

Apple Music is also integrated into messages, so you can play a track in-line. Gotta admit, that one's new.

12:02 AM
12:00 AM

Scribble also works in messages, so you can send a handwritten reply.

11:58 PM

There are also "bubble effects" in messages now. Messages can appear in different ways. For instance, make your text smaller to indicate a whisper or apology and large to indicate you're yelling or excited. Yep, that's exactly like Allo's Whisper/Shout mechanic.

The only new thing is "surprise" messages, that you have to swipe to view.

11:57 PM

"Emojis are now 3 times bigger"....O K...

iMessage also highlights "emoji-fiable" words.

11:55 PM

Messages have also been upgraded with "Rich Links". Inline images, and YouTube videos.

11:54 PM
11:52 PM

If you own an Apple TV, it can act as a "Home Base" of sorts. It's never fully off, so when it senses your iPhone in proximity it can automate tasks on a preset list.

11:52 PM
11:49 PM

On to IoT now, Apple has leveraged HomeKit to bring a new Home app to iOS 10. It lets you control all your connected devices from one app. Home also features in the iOS Control Center. This way you don't need to open various apps to control different devices. Unfortunately it's not controllable by Siri just yet.

11:49 PM
11:47 PM

Seems Apple News  has a new design as well. And it's getting Subscriptions, so you can pull articles from every other news app into Apple News. That way you can read all your favourite publishers in one location, with lock screen notifications.

11:46 PM
11:45 PM

Now we're moving on to Apple News updates.

11:44 PM

This is definitely a fun addition though. There's a new Lyrics pane for your playlist.

11:43 PM

Library, For You, Browse, Radio, and Search are the only tabs at the bottom now. Connect is still in there, but not cluttering up the main menu anymore.

11:42 PM

And now Apple Music. A slight redesign; not much change in functionality but it does look cleaner now.

11:41 PM

Well, at least Apple Maps is coming to developers. Hopefully Apple picks up a few tips to actually compete with Google here.

11:39 PM

Eddy Cue just told the crowd they can pan and zoom during navigation and they cheered. I mean, you can call it "Dynamic View" but it's been on  Google Maps for so so long!

11:38 PM

Slide up from the bottom for suggestions on where you might want to go, as well as supposedly a cleaner UI and better traffic information.

11:36 PM

Next feature, it looks like Apple is taking another crack at maps. Apple Maps has a new design.

11:36 PM
11:34 PM

There's also a new tab at the bottom of Photos called Memories. It curates highlight reels of photos from a location or event

11:32 PM

That's facial recognition being processed locally, and creating tabs for different people. The only advantage this has over Google Photos is that privacy is probably better, seeing as the facial recognition is happening on your phone instead of in the cloud.

11:31 PM
11:31 PM

11:29 PM

Aha!. Siri is coming to WhatsApp, WeChat, Uber, Lyft, Pinterest. Runtastic and RunKeeper, and even Skype.

11:28 PM

Apple is opening up Siri to app developers. Finally! Took long enough. Having it integrated into other apps means you could conceivably send a WhatsApp using voice commands.

11:26 PM

Also something to keep in mind, none of this stuff works with iPhone SE of course. That doesn't have the 3D Touch hardware, a decision we here at dna still question incredulously.

11:25 PM

Again, that's really not something even the slightest bit original. Apple really has to up its game to impress me with iOS 10.

11:23 PM

You can respond to notifications from the lock screen using 3D Touch.

11:22 PM

iOS 10 has a new lock screen and "expanded 3D Touch".

11:20 PM

Sierra will see a public beta in July, with the final version out later in the year.

11:18 PM

Siri can also search for files on your system and tell jokes apparently. Google's assistant doesn't tell jokes but it did show up in Chrome in 2014. Cortana then made her entrance for Microsoft's Windows 10 last year. Apple is SERIOUSLY slow on the draw here. This isn't innovation, it's struggling to catch up.

11:17 PM

And there we go. Siri is coming to the Mac.

There's an icon in the top left of the menu bar and in the dock.

11:17 PM
11:15 PM

Safari-like tabs are also coming to any other app. That....might actually be too much freedom.

11:14 PM

Honestly, it's probably just easier to buy stuff online without Apple Pay than having to use your  phone or watch to authenticate a web purchase. That's like circumnavigating the globe to cross the street.

11:12 PM

Apple Pay is coming to the Mac, and it uses continuity to authenticate with the Apple Watch.

11:10 PM

Now this is definitely helpful. iCloud Drive is being improved to sync across devices. Now your desktop and your documents can be accesses across different Macs and iPhones.

11:09 PM

There's also a new Universal Clipboard that functions  across macOS and iOS.

11:07 PM

There's a new Auto Unlock feature that lets you unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch.  No need to enter your password if the watch is nearby.

11:06 PM
11:06 PM

"OS X the name has been with us for over 15 years, and it's served us well. We realized there's a name that's so much clearer, and so much simpler."

Aha! The rumours are right, they're changing OS X to macOS!

11:05 PM

Free update for tvOS later this year too.

11:04 PM

Now moving on to OS X with Craig Federighi.

11:03 PM

And here's a leak we heard about, there's a new Dark Mode  coming to tvOS. More on that soon.

11:01 PM

Additionally, a huge announcement is that Siri can now also search YouTube for the Apple TV!

11:00 PM

There's a new Apple TV remote app

It's got the same capabilities as the Siri Remote. It has touch, voice, and motion control, as well as a text keyboard.

10:59 PM

A bunch of new apps are coming to Apple TV. Aside from the expected streaming apps, NBA 2K, Minecraft Story Mode, and Sketch Party are all coming to the TV.

10:59 PM

Eddy Cue now on stage to talk about tvOS and Apple TV.

10:58 PM

All the new features will be available in a free update later this year.

10:57 PM

AApple has also opened up the Apple Pay API to third-party developers.

10:56 PM
10:54 PM

It seems Apple has been developing new features for disabled persons as well. "Time to stand" notifications can be changed to "Time to roll", and clearly Apple has been monitoring how Watch users in wheelchairs are using the device. Neat.

10:53 PM

You can even directly message friends you're sharing your activities with, with SMart Reply gearedtowards workout-related replies.

10:52 PM

You can also share your fitness data with your friends. nothing like some friendly competition to get into shape for a beach holiday.

10:51 PM
10:49 PM

This is new, and definitely interesting. There's a new SOS mode on the Apple Watch. Press and hold the side button and it calls 911 if you're close enough to your phone or connected to WiFi. It also sends your location to the authorities, as well as your friends, and displays your medical ID. Would be great if we could get this to work outside the US.

10:47 PM

Apple has also opened up the dock to third-party apps, so you're not limited to Apple's offerings.

10:46 PM

The Dock Button on the side now holds live apps, so you can swap between them without having to wait for them to load up each time.

10:45 PM

A new change as well is in response to people changes watch faces to suit the occasion. Now you can just swipe to change the watch face.

10:44 PM

Also, it looks like the Mickey Mouse watch face has a new playmate.

10:43 PM

You can also swipe up from the bottom for a mini control centre.

Additionally, Scribble is a new handwriting mod for drawing letters on screen

10:42 PM

Pressing the side button on the Apple Watch now brings up a customizable "dock" instead of the old communications screen.

10:41 PM

Demo showing a comparison between watchOS 2 and 3. Honestly it IS faster, but that should have been the case in the first place, not with the third iteration.

10:39 PM

watchOS 3 keeps your favourite apps in the background to load them faster.

10:38 PM

"People who use Apple Watch love it. Your app should actually respond instantly. And the information you look at should update before you look at it." Looks like Apple has improved app load times with watchOS 3

10:37 PM

Kevin Lynch now on stage to talk about the Apple Watch. Let's see what we got.

10:37 PM
10:36 PM

"Today for the first time, we're going to talk to you about four Apple platforms — each is category defining and world changing." That's iOS, OS X, watchOS and tvOS.

10:35 PM

Cook now saying the App Store hit a major milestone recently. 2 millions apps with over 130 billion total downloads.

10:34 PM

120 of those attendees are under 18 years old and one sole attendee is just 9!

10:33 PM

13 million registered Apple developers this year, with over 5,000 attendees at WWDC from 74 countries.

10:31 PM

First things first, Cook addresses the mass shooting in Orlando.

"Before we start with the keynote, we'd like to take a moment to talk about the tragedy that occurred yesterday in Orlando. We offer our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this act of terrorism. This was a senseless, unconscionable act of terrorism and hate."

10:30 PM

And Apple's WWDC 2016 keynote has officially begun. Tim Cook on stage now.
