I would love to dress Cher

Designer Mark Fast has a strong fan following in Hollywood with the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Ciara, Nicki Minaj, Christina Aguilera, Amber Rose, Jessie J and Kelly Brooke patronising his designs. Recently he showcased his collection at  the Signature International Fashion Weekend.

New York, London and Paris. How different are the three cities when it comes to style and fashion?
The energies from all these cities is different. It all depends on the culture and the people in the context of fashion. There are so many exciting things that come out of all the cities. When I think of New York, I think of urban graffiti and contemporary fashion. When I think of London, I think of freedom of expression, and when I think of Paris, I think of couture, and perfume. I am so excited to see India and how fashion connects to the culture and the people around.

Who is a dream celeb you’d love to dress up and why?
I would love to dress Cher. I love her sense of humour!

What’s your signature style? Any fashion elements which sum up your brand’s aesthetic?
I work with knitwear and I create my knitwear around the form of a woman. My work is body conscious and sexy. It enhances the inner beauty of whoever wears it. It is also cinematic and dangerous.

Has India ever inspired you? What’s your impression of India’s fashion scene?
I watched the movie from Wes Anderson called, The Darjeeling Limited. This movie showed me how colourful and beautiful India is. I am hoping to be very inspired from my visit here. My impression is of exciting colours and beautiful embroideries.

With a ‘racking’ technique you created zig zag on your dresses in one of your collections. Is there are reason why you are so technical?
I am very technical. This way, I know how to break the rules of knitwear and have fun. I am always looking for new ways to work and show knitwear in a different way. It is a very exciting field of creative expression.
