NSA Ajit Doval's day out in Kashmir: Lunch with locals, meetings with security officials

NSA Ajit Doval on Wednesday visited the Valley where he met with locals and shared a meal with them.

A day after the Parliament approved the government's decision to end special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into union territories, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Wednesday visited the Valley to review the security situation and interact with people. 

Doval met with senior security officials in Srinagar to review the ground situation. In the meeting, Doval directed the officials to ensure that common people do not face any hardships in the wake of the recent development pertaining to the state.

He also directed the officials to ensure smooth supply of essential food items and provide emergency assistance on a priority basis.

The NSA met security personnel in Shopian in presence of DGP Dilbag Singh.

Doval also met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan and discussed the prevailing external and internal security situation. 

Both of them stressed the need for ensuring the safety of the general public and emphasised constant alertness, preparedness and synergy among various departments to meet any unforeseen situation.

Doval reached the state a day after Home Minister Amit Shah announced abrogation of Article 35A and dilution of Article 370, provisions that gave the special right to subjects of the state over several matters including land, government jobs and scholarships.

 

The government has also bifurcated the state, making them union territories -- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Doval visited Shopian and met with some local people as part of his visit for an assessment on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

He was seen interacting with a few people in a shut-down market over food and inquired about their well being. He also explained to them the Centre's decisions.

 

He also assured them that their welfare was the government's prime concern.

 

"How is everything? What do you people think?" he asks the group to which one of them replied, "Everything is good".

 

"Yes, everything will be fine. Everyone should live peacefully. Whatever the almighty does is good. Your security and well being is our only concern. We are thinking about the growth and welfare of your generations," the NSA said.

Later he also met with security personnel in Shopian in the presence of DGP Dilbag Singh.

 

"The Whole country is proud of CRPF. Wherever there is a need, the personnel are deployed and they have always managed the situation well. In Kashmir also we are very proud of your discipline, morale and work ethics", he told the security personnel.

 

Doval also met with the personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police.

Earlier on Tuesday, Governor Malik reviewed the status of prevailing security and law and order scenario in the state.

 

"Governor directed Deputy Commissioners of respective districts in Valley to depute their staff to visit different localities & take stock of requirements of people & address them swiftly. He reiterated his concern for ensuring the safety of general public," a statement by the Raj Bhavan said. 

 

"Governor was informed that overall situation in the state remained satisfactory in all manners. People were seen in markets buying their daily provisions, emergency services in hospitals are functioning, electricity & water supply running satisfactorily," the statement added.
