BJP likely to stake claim to form next government in Haryana.

On October 24, Haryana results ended in a hung assembly as no single party managed to reach the magic number - 46 - required to stake claim to form the government in the 90-member assembly.

With several possibilities existing, on Friday, Gopal Kanda and several other independent MLAs announced that they will offer unconditional support to the BJP.

At one point of time, it was almost certain that BJP was going to form the government with the support of independents, however, after several key developments, JJP which secured 10 seats and was in the position of the kingmaker finally sealed an alliance with the BJP.

On Friday evening, BJP president Amit Shah, party working president JP Nadda, incumbent Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, JJP's Dushyant Chautala along with other leaders announced that both the parties (BJP and JJP) will be forming the next government in the state.

The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday sealed an alliance to form a coalition government in Haryana where the latter fell short of the majority mark of 46 in the elections held for 90-member assembly.

In Haryana, where counting of votes was held on Thursday, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 40 seats while the Congress won 31 seats. The JJP was hoping to play the role of kingmaker with its 10 MLAs in the 90-member Haryana Assembly.

Soon after Dushyant Chautala indicated that he was open to supporting a BJP-led government in Harayana, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) chief met Union Home Minister and BJP president Amit Shah at the latter's residence in New Delhi. He was accompanied by Minister of State (MoS) for Finance and BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh Anurag Thakur.

After the meeting was concluded, Shah announced that the BJP and JJP have decided to form the government together. While the chief minister will be from the BJP, the JJP has been offered a deputy chief minister's post.

"Accepting the mandate by the people of Haryana, leaders of both parties have decided that BJP-JJP will form the govt together in Haryana. CM will be from BJP and Deputy CM will be from JJP," Shah said.

Addressing party workers after assembly election results on Thursday, PM Modi said, "The political pundits who are analysing today's election results, Haryana in itself is an exceptional win since these days there have been less instances of winning again after completing a 5-year term."

"Devendra Fadnavis ji and Manohar Lal ji both were first-time chief ministers, they did not even have the experience as ministers. And for five years they kept working for people's welfare and as a result, people have again put their faith in them," PM added.

"In Haryana have seen a 3% increase in our vote share since the last time and we have emerged as the largest party there, I thank the people for this," said BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
