Independence Day 2019: Banning single-use plastic- Need action on ground

Single-use plastic has devastated ecosystems and landscapes of India. The situation today is that microplastic has entered our food chain and water. It will take at least two decades of dedicated effort from the government to restore some of the damage. Though there has been tokenism from the government, we have hardly seen significant action. I hope the commitment to eliminate use of single-use plastic as announced by the PM takes effect on the ground.

The responsibility to save the environment begins at the top and today the PM has shown sensitivity to the issue.
