Spa-cial care for you

With the weather still humid, let city spas give you a ‘cool’ treatment.

Spa-cial care for you

There’s no respite from the summer yet and if you haven’t been to a spa, the time to do so is now. There are a variety of cool summer treatments on offer that are sure to chill you out.

Aloe vera scrub and cucumber and mint wrap
At the Myrah Spa, which is located in a Victorian style-bungalow, the aloe treatment is very popular. “Aloe vera helps to remove the surface tan and pigmentation while the mint gets rid of the excess heat, explains owner Nisha Jhaveri. First there is a scrub to exfoliate the skin, followed by the wrap. Then, one is swathed in muslin sheets that have been pre-soaked in chilled cucumber juice. Sounds blissful, doesn’t it? At the end you get a cup of herbal tea and crackers.

Cost: The 90-minute package will set you back by a cool Rs 4,000 plus taxes.

Truly matte Mogok facial
For a little Burmese pampering, make your way to the Clarins spa off Kemp’s Corner. Says Reetika Kotecha, head, Clarins Skin Spa, “The truly matte Mogok facial treatment is apt for the summer heat. It contains tanaka powder (from a Burmese tree) which has skin-mattifying and purifying properties.” The treatment starts with  facial exfoliation  with a clay peel mixed with a lemon and pineapple fruit powder to remove dead cells. Then your face is treated to a hydrating mask as well as a light scalp massage.

Cost
: The 60-minute treatment is priced at Rs 2,550, including taxes.

Aqua cold stone treatment
While we’ve all heard of hot stone therapies, Club Renaissance spa has an aqua cold stone one. After sun treatments with aloe vera gel, cucumber and sandalwood body wrap,  a coffee-cocoa butter scrub is also part of their summer spa menu.

Cost
: Rs 2,500 plus taxes for 90 minutes.

Mango massage
At the Antara spa get the king of fruits off your plate and onto your body. Antara’s therapists use specially blended oils, balm and masques that contain mango essence. In the next hour the masseuse pounds and then gently massages out your muscle knots, followed by a quick steam and a long hot shower later.

Cost
: A 60 minute treatment is for Rs 1,500 plus taxes.

Indoceane Spa ritual
The spa ritual at the JW Marriott takes you around the globe with treatments from four different cultures. First, one steps into the ‘Mediterranean’ region with a sweet and savoury scrub with lotus, brown sugar, salt and essential oils of lemon, mandarin and grapefruit. This is followed by an Egyptian milk bath, trailed by an Indian ayurvedic massage and finally a Chinese regenerating body wrap. It lasts for two and a half hours.
Cost: Rs 6,500.
