Kolkata Knight Riders moved one step closer to booking a place in the playoffs after beating Kings XI Punjab by 7 wickets in Mohali on Friday. KXIP, on the other hand, are all but out of playoff contention after the match.

The win took KKR to fifth place in the IPL 2019 Points Table with 12 points and one match more to play. KXIP remain at the seventh position with 10 points.

CSK sit at the top of the IPL 2019 Points Table with 18 points from 13 games. MI are second with 16 points from the same number of points as Delhi but better Net Run Rate. Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad sit in the remaining playoff spot ahead of KKR with the same number of points (12) but a superior NRR.

Rajasthan Royals are placed sixth in the table with 11 points ahead of KXIP and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals have already sealed their playoff spots, which leaves only one slot yet to be decided.

Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Kings XI Punjab can still make it to the last spot while Royal Challengers Bangalore are already out of the contention.

At the top of the table Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals will look to finish in the top two spots and enter qualifier 1.

In IPL, the top two teams after the group stage play the first qualifier while the third and fourth placed teams play the eliminator. The loser of the eliminator crashed out while the winner meets the loser of Qualifier 1 in the second qualifier. The winner of Qualifier 1 makes it to the final directly and awaits the winner of qualifier 2 for the title clash.

These matches remain to be played in IPL 2019 after KXIP vs KKR:

Saturday, 4 May: Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals

Saturday, 4 May: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunday, 5 May 2019: Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings

Sunday, 5 May 2019: Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders

Here is a look at how teams can finish in top four or top-two spots after the results of KXIP vs KKR match:

1. How Chennai Super Kings can finish in top 2

How Chennai Super Kings can finish in top 2
1/7

Chennai Super Kings: CSK will finish in the top spot if they win their last game against Kings XI Punjab. However, if they lose that game and both Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals win their matches, CSK could still finish outside the top two. For that to happen, Delhi will have to win big and Chennai to lose big. (Image: PTI)

2. How Mumbai Indians can finish in top 2

Mumbai Indians: MI play their last match against Kolkata Knight Riders and a win surely earns them a top-two finish as MI have the best NRR in the top three teams. If they lose that match, they can still end up in top two if Delhi Capitals lose their last game against Rajasthan Royals. (Image: IPL)

3. How Delhi Capitals can finish in top 2

Delhi Capitals: DC can finish at the top, second or third in the points table based on the results of upcoming matches. They have the worst NRR among the three teams. They can finish in top two and make to the qualifier 1 only if they win their last match against Rajasthan and Mumbai lose against KKR. They also have an outside chance of finishing at the top if they win big against RR and CSK lose their game with a very large margin (and Mumbai lose too). (Image: BCCI)

4. How Sunrisers Hyderabad can make it to playoffs

Sunrisers Hyderabad: SRH need to win their final game against Royal Challengers Bangalore to move to 14 points. At this points their superior NRR (+0.653 after MI vs SRH) should see them through to the top four. If Sunrisers lose their last match they can reach the playoffs if Kolkata Knight Riders lose their final match. (Image: AFP)

5. How Kolkata Knight Riders can make it to playoffs

Kolkata Knight Riders: The equation is simple - they will have to win their remaining match and hope that Hyderabad lose to Bangalore. (Image: PTI)

6. How Rajasthan Royals can make it to playoffs

Rajasthan Royals: RR need to win their last match and hope that- 1) Sunrisers Hyderabad lose to Royal Challengers Bangalore and 2) Kolkata Knight Riders lose to Mumbai Indians in their final match. (Image: PTI)

7. How Kings XI Punjab can make it to playoffs

How Kings XI Punjab can make it to playoffs
7/7

Kings XI Punjab: It seems almost impossible - even if Punjab win their last match and Hyderabad, Rajasthan and Kolkata lose their final matches, their run rate is too low for them to qualify for the playoffs. It is also mathematically possible if they win with a big margin and other teams lose with BIGGGG margins. (Image: Reuters)
