When asked whether Virat Kohli was like a breath of fresh air for speaking his mind, Shane Warne said “He’s fantastic. I love watching him bat and I love listening to him. I am a big fan.”

“You know what he does? He stands up for what he believes in. He speaks how he feels and he’s real. He’s emotional, a bit too emotional sometimes on the field. But that’s the part of the charm,” Warne told the newspaper.

When asked why Australia loves Kohli, Shane Warne said, "I think world cricket loves him. Everyone loves Virat Kohli because it's refreshing to hear him talk so honestly and openly. He loves confrontation. That's why he has those 100s in chases. How many? 23? 24? It's unbelievable. The next best is how much? I can't remember who's second. That's phenomenal. That's something inbuilt into you. That's not skill or talent. He's got a lot of that. That is just pure competitiveness and pure desire - to get the job done.

Shane Warne said Virat Kohli is the ‘best leader of men’ in world cricket at the moment. However, he added that there are other captains who can match the Indian skipper tactically.

“There is a difference between captaincy, tactics and the leader of the team. I am a huge Virat Kohli fan,” Warne told NDTV.

“I think he is great for the game of cricket. He leads his team so well. Tactically, it’s very hard to split. I think Tim Paine, Kane Williamson from New Zealand are very good tactically as well. So I think it’s very hard to say if there are any standout captains but I would say the best leader of men at the moment is definitely Virat Kohli.”

Shane Warne also praised Virat Kohli for supporting Test cricket. "I think we are very lucky that Virat Kohli and India have decided that Test cricket is the most important form of the game for India.

"If Virat Kohli had said, T20 cricket is the most important or one-day cricket is the most important, that would be real trouble. But you have Virat Kohli saying Test cricket is the most important part of the game, and everything we are doing in Indian cricket is about Test cricket... And I think they have got it right," said Warne to CricketNext.

Shane Warne also weighed in on the debate over who is the better batsman between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Warne told TOI that any comparisons between Kohli and Tendulkar are difficult to make since both have played in different eras and the conditions have changed drastically. He said that the conditions now are more suitable for batsmen then what they were during Tendulkar's playing days.

Warne said that he will rather wait and see Kohli do greater things in his career before he can make a choice. He, however, added that the attitude and the way Kohli goes about playing is game is brilliant.
