Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu starts announcement his second railway budget. He says the budget is reflective of the aspirations of the entire railway family, the common man who have been talking to him on social media and meeting him, and of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Railways will get three pillars for development -- New revenues, new norms, restructure.
India Railways have a saving of Rs 8,720 crore from previous budget estimates, Prabhu said. This year, "we hope to generate revenues to the order of Rs 1,84,820 crores," he added.
The Indian Railways is an organisation that has stood the test of time, Prabhu said.
Former TADA Court judge, PD Kode, said that Sanjay Dutt, unlike other accused, did not make any demand of any undue concession.
"Unlike some of the accused, he never indulged in making a demand of any undue concession. He requested that whenever his case is decided, it was to be declared if he is a terrorist or not," Kode said.

-- Ajmer,Amritsar,Gaya,Mathura, Nanded, Nashik, Puri, Tirupati, Varanasi, and other pilgrim stations to be beautified.
-- India's first railway auto hub in Chennai to be inaugurated soon

-- Will increase quota for senior citizen for lower berths in each coach by 50%, thereby adding nearly 120 lower berths per train for them.

Clear distinction will be made between food preparation and food distribution.
Food will be made at 45 large stations and will be distributed to all 400 A and A1.
Local cuisine will be made available to passengers. Fresh food and quality will be ensured by hiring third party to audit.
Reservation for backward classes -- SC, ST, and women in catering.

-- 1,600 km of electrification this year and 2,000 km in the next year are proposed
-- More dedicated freight corridors to accommodate the increased demand in freight transport.
-- Action has been taken on 139 budget announcements in the last budget. For the first time, an implementation report has been made.
-- We plan to commission to 2,800 km of tracks. We would be surpassing the ambitious target of 2,500 Kms of broad gauge line this year
