Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu starts announcement his second railway budget. He says the budget is reflective of the aspirations of the entire railway family, the common man who have been talking to him on social media and meeting him, and of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He added these are challenging times for the Indian Railways. "We need to reorganise and restructure Indian Railways. We need to bring in a new structure," he said.

Railways will get three pillars for development -- New revenues, new norms, restructure. 

India Railways have a saving of Rs 8,720 crore from previous budget estimates, Prabhu said. This year, "we hope to generate revenues to the order of Rs 1,84,820 crores," he added. 

The Indian Railways is an organisation that has stood the test of time, Prabhu said.

Clear distinction will be made between food preparation and food distribution.

Food will be made at 45 large stations and will be distributed to all 400 A and A1. 

Local cuisine will be made available to passengers. Fresh food and quality will be ensured by hiring third party to audit. 

Reservation for backward classes -- SC, ST, and women in catering.
