It was during the IPL 2020 RCB vs King XI Punjab innings that commentator Sunil Gavaskar while referring to a viral video of the couple, had said that Kohli's only practice during the COVID-19 lockdown was facing wife Anushka Sharma's bowling. After several media outlets and social media users called out Sunil Gavaskar for his 'sexist', 'distasteful' remarks against Anushka Sharma, the actress too put up a long post on her Instagram Stories expressing disapproval of Gavaskar's comments. Anushka wrote, "That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her of her husband's game? I'm sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commenting on the game. Don't you think you should have an equal amount of respect for me and us? I'm sure you can have many other words and sentences in your mind to use to comment on my husband's performance from last night or your words only relevant if you use my name in the process? It's 2020 and things still don`t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements?" She added, "Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman`s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this."

In August 2018, Team India visited the Indian High Commission in London and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a picture of the gathering on their official Twitter account. In the picture, captain Virat Kohli to head coach Ravi Shastri, every player from the team along with members of the support staff were seen posing with Indian diplomats. Anushka Sharma was too seen posing for the click. This did not go down too well with netizens and Anushka, who was the only spouse at the occasion, was massively trolled for it. After the matter got out of hand, Anushka shut the trolls down by tweeting, 'My name was used for false stories to make it look like the Board was being bothered for my tickets or security etc. When in reality I bought my own tickets for matches and flights and I still kept quiet. I was asked to stand in a group photo by the High Commissioner's wife despite my hesitation to be in it and a huge issue was created over this blaming me for intentionally wanting to be a part of it and the said event, even though I was invited for it. An official clarification was issued by the Board on the same and I still kept quiet.'

After former Team India cricketer Farokh Engineer claimed that he saw Indian national selectors serving tea to her during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in the UK, Anushka Sharma had put out a long note slamming him for making such remarks. In the statement, Anushka clarified, "It’s not like this last piece of 'news' has upset me more and that's why I have decided to break my silence. They have all been as regressive and horrible and malicious and vicious. So, don't take this letter as my retort to this 'news'."

In January, when Anushka Sharma was pregnant with Vamika, she had slammed a photographer on Instagram for clicking Virat Kohli and her photos despite being told not to. The actress, in a strong message on her Instagram story, asked the photog and the publication to stop invading their privacy. In the photo,
Anushka and Virat were sitting on the balcony of their apartment and the pictures were clicked and posted without the couple's knowledge. She slammed the portal, saying, "Despite requesting the said photographer and the publication, they still continue to invade our privacy. Guys! Stop this right now!"
