The well-acclaimed Bollywood actor Tabu turns 50-year-old today. With her performances, Tabu has proven to be an actor with mettle. From 'Chandni Bar' to 'AndhaDhun' and now, 'A Suitable Boy', Tabu has always given her fans something new to ponder upon.
The actress' own life, however, remains one big mystery. Tabu, known to rarely give interviews, has never opened up about her personal life, likes, dislikes and relations with family.
Did you know that the actress has one pet name which is also called Toblerone? No, really. Many would not even know the Tabu that was. When Tabassum Hashmi (her real name) entered the film industry, she delivered a sequence of flop films.

1. Tabu's real name, pet name

Tabu is a stage from Tabassum Hashmi. She was born on November 4, 1971 in Kolkta. Tabu's parents had divorced when she was a child and she grew up with her mother, Rizwana. On the sets, she is called Tabs, Tubs, Tubby, Tobler and even Toblerone!
2. Could never cry on sets

Tabu has claimed that she cannot cry on sets on matter what. The actress uses glycerine even today for an emotional scene.
3. Vegan and fitness freak

Tabu has all the reasons to love chicken biryani (her mother is a great cook), but chooses to be a vegan. While the actress has not confessed to it, she is also a gym freak and does not miss out on her gym days unless absolutely urgent.
4. Declared a flop actress at first

Tabu went through her series of flops in Bollywood before giving her first hit film. She got her big Bollywood break in Boney Kapoor's film 'Prem' which took eight years to complete. She was signed opposite Sanjay Kapoor in the movie. She was then seen in 'Pehla Pehla Pyaar', which also did not resonate with the audiences. In 1994, after Vijaypath, the actress was taken seriously. She then gave her numerous hits and became the actress she is today.
5. Shabana Azmi's niece

Not many would know but Tabu is veteran actor Shabana Azmi's niece. Baba Azmi is her uncle and thus, Tanvi Azmi, her aunt. Tabu's elder sister Farah Naaz is also an actress.
