Diwali is the festival of lights, sweets and firecrackers, but the harm these crackers are causing needs to stop. And an increasing number of people are becoming aware of how excessive usage of crackers during Diwali leads to noise pollution, global warming, respiratory problems and many other severe issues. Deepavali - Deep(light), avali (rows) - means a row of light, not fireworks.
Now, various slogans and pictures by Happily Unmarried are trending on social media sites with the hashtag #NoMoreShor, urging people to say no to firecrackers this Diwali and go green.
Stopping the use of firecrackers during festivals can lead to the solving of several other problems, including asthma and child labour, who form most of the workforce in factories that manufacture firecrackers.
