India v/s South Africa 2nd Twenty20 Match Commentary: SA win easily, crowd trouble increases India's misery
Crowd trouble meant play was stopped twice

South Africa have won the match easily, though they opted to do it the easy way. Crowd trouble robbed the game of any cheer. India were never in the game from the word go and go down 0-2 in the 3-match series. Hope there is some action about the crowd issues. Even the police seemed fairly uninterested in controlling the problem. Morose end to a tame game.

Over 18

FOUR. It's all over. Long hop from Raina, sits up and Duminy just scoops it over midwicket for a one-bounce four. SA win by 6 wickets with 17 balls left.

Over 17

SIX! Down the track and Miller lifts Axar Patel high over long off for six. The last rites begin.

Single to midwicket and SA need just 2 off 21 balls.

Another single, one more needed.

Last ball of the over, no run. Still 1 needed. 92/4.

Over 16

SA are finding it tough to score on this wicket too. 3 off the first four balls. Unfortunately the target is too low.

4 off the over, SA 83/4 after 16.

Duminy's 24 not out is the highest score of the match.

Over 15

OUT! The crowd have their wish, and they let out a small, mean cry of appreciation. Axar Patel gets Farhaan Behardien LBW. SA 76/4.

David Miller is the new batsman. He never batted in the last match.

Single to midwicket.  Then a Duminy single to long on.

SA 79/4 after 15 overs.

Over 14

The match has resumed and Raina is bowling. 2 off the first three balls.

Behardien advances down the track and Raina bowls full and wide. Behardien gets one to long off.

SA 74/3 after 14 overs.

The umpires and the match referee are having a discussion. Sunil Gavaskar is irate. He demands that some Indian players come out to pacify the crowd. There is no Azharuddin in this team though. Remember the Titan Cup final in 1996?

Over 13

Axar Patel has finally been invited to bowl. Too late, and he's not Warne anyway.

Behardian is foxed by the flight and turn, and the pad's edge goes to first slip, but SA run a single as the fielder can't stop it.

SA 70/3 after 13 overs.

And they are coming off again as crowd trouble begins again. The Duckworth-Lewis par score is 55. So if no more play is possible, South Africa win.

Over 12

The crowd has resorted to throwing trash into the ground. Fortunately the boundary has been brought way inside. There is a halt in play as order is being restored. Shameful behaviour. The area behind the fence is full of plastic bottles. Some civilised behaviour.

The match is still held up as they clear the bottles from the ground. Some have actually entered the playing area. Disgusting.

The match has restarted and Suresh Raina is the new bowler.

Duminy hits to short cover and the crowd roars huge. But it was on the bounce.

South Africa are taking it very easy, this is a very slow game now. 1 off the over so far.

Just two off the over, SA 66/3 after 12 overs.

Over 10

Gavaskar is now talking about RP Singh, since his pet boy Harbhajan didn't do well (again).

Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes into the attack.

Two runs off the first four balls.

Duminy may be gone. He doesn't time a straight drive well, but it allows him to run a single as the ball trundles to mid on. Duminy trundles too, before a direct hit results in an appeal. Duminy is home though, on the replay. SA 57/3 after 10 overs.

Over 9

Harbhajan will bowl out. His last over, no wicket for 18.

Two off five balls, the crowd thinks that's awesome.

SA 53/3 after 9 overs.

Over 8

Single off the first two balls. Ashwin in his last over.

FOUR. Quicker delivery, but full and sits up for Duminy to drive through point for four.

Huge sweep shot by Duminy, misses and the ball slips through quickly to Dhoni.

OUT! Ashwin has foxed AB de Villiers superbly. The master batsman plays for the turn to a ball pitched on off, but there is none. It's a top spinner that knocks off de Villiers off stump. You have to see it to believe it. SA 49/3 after 8 overs. Ashwin 3/24 off 4 overs.

Over 6

FOUR. Down the track and du Plessis hits Ashwin over mid off for four.

SIX! He does it again and this time clears the fence.

OUT! Now he advances down the track, gets a leading edge as he tries to scoop it straight down the ground. Mid off runs back and its in his zone this time. Takes a good catch. SA 38/2 after 6 overs.

Over 5

FOUR. Faf comes down the track and hits Harbhajan inside out over mid off for four.

Now a single to mid on and SA are rolling along smoothly.

Oh! Beaten by late turn as Faf plays straight. Nearly caught behind. SA 25/1 after 5 overs.

Over 4

Three dot balls from Ashwin. But the run rate is not a problem for SA.

du Plessis drives hard but finds short cover and the crowd roars. He's now 1 off 7. SA 18/1 after 4 overs.

Over 3

Gavaskar's favourite Harbhajan has been called into the attack.

Three off the first two balls.

SA 17/1 after 3 overs.

Over 2

Like Tahir, Ashwin has been called on to bowl the second over. Gets milked for 3 off the first four balls.

OUT! Hashim Amla has apparently been foxed by Ashwin. Caught at backward short leg. SA 13/1 after 2 overs.

Over 1

AB and Amla are the Proteas openers, again.

Two boundaries off the third and fourth balls of the over.

AB slashes the fifth ball straight to cover, no run.

Ouch. Ball comes in sharply, AB misreads the line just a bit, inside edge onto pad saves him from the LBW. SA 9/0 after 1 over.

India have been dismissed for a paltry 92. This is their second lowest score in Twenty20 internationals and lowest in India. The Indian innings never got going. Variable bounce and lazy shotmaking meant no batsman crossed 22. Rohit and Raina were joined top scorers at 22 off 24 balls each. This should be easy for SA.

Over 18

OUT! Ashwin gives room, Morris bowls full and straight, and Ashwin misses. The ball hits the top of middle stump, and India have been bowled out for 92.

Over 17

Mohit Sharma is the last batsman. Abbott, who is wicketless, gets the ball to smash the pad and makes a big appeal. Turned down and India run a leg bye.

Slower ball, but Ashwin reads it well and on drives for one.

Mohit Sharma tries an upper cut arching backwards - surely a shot too ambitious for his abilities - and fails miserably. No run.

No ball. Huge full toss that meets Mohit in the hips.

FREE HIT. Short ball, Mohit swings across the line but his bat meets air. Called a wide, contentious decision. Free hit persists.

India 91/9 after 17 overs.

Over 16

Axar flicks a full toss off his pads really well, but a great dive in the deep saves a certain boundary.

Big yorker, right on target but Axar digs it out well. No dew on the pitch tonight.

OUT! Axar Patel is gone now. Picks up a full ball on middle and leg and hits straight to short midwicket. He made 9. India 85/8.

Short and wide, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has a waft at it and misses.

OUT! Bhuvneshwar Kumar is bowled to a straight, fairly quick delivery. India 85/9 after 16 overs.

Over 15

Two runs off the first three balls.

Driven into the off side for one. India struggle to 80.

Axar pulls hard to deep midwicket for one. India 81/7 after 15.

Over 14

Just one off the first three balls. That Harbhajan shot was callous.

Ashwin defends another ball. This has turned into a Test match.

Single off the last ball, India 75/7 after 14 overs.

Over 13

India depend almost fully on Raina now. He has to stay there almost until the end.

Patel gets a single to sweeper cover.

OUT! Suresh Raina is gone for 22. He simply drove the ball straight into the hands of short cover. India are down in the dumps. 69/6.

OUT! Harbhajan has been bowled first ball. He had no idea of either line or length and merely tried a lazy flick to the on side. Bowled hook line and sinker. Tahir gets two.

R Ashwin is the new man in. India's last hope.

FOUR. Good late cut from Ashwin, no foot movement but he timed it perfectly. India 73/7.

Over 12

Albie Morkel into his second over. Milked to sweeper cover for one first ball.

Down the track and Raina misses with the hoick over midwicket.

Short ball on the hips. But doesn't come on quickly. Raina pulls hard but only a single to fine leg.

OUT! MS Dhoni is out and there is silence in Cuttack. Huge outside edge and AB takes it diving in front.

The replay shows the ball bounced onto AB's fingertips before he collected it. India 67/5.

Axar Patel is the new batsman. The long tail commences. Though I would have preferred Harbhajan.

Outside edge gets a single for Axar. India 68/5 after 12 overs.

Over 10

FOUR. Drive from Raina, Duminy dives on the fence to stop it, first seems to have fielded it well, then slips out of his hands and goes for four. His foot touched the fence as well.

FOUR. Short and slightly wide, Raina slashes, the ball flies past the point fielder into the fence.

Wide. Ball takes off from a length again, sails way over Raina's head, and AB can only stop it because he is so acrobatic. Uneven bounce aplenty.

India 58/4 after 10 overs.

Over 9

OUT! Ambati Rayudu is bowled for 0 off a full toss. Played down the wrong line without much commitment. India are 45/4.

Captain MS Dhoni comes out to the middle with a task on his hands. At least he now has reason to get his eye in.

The variable bounce has decimated India.

Short and wide from leg stump, umpire calls wide and signals one bouncer for the over. Bad stuff.

Straight on middle, keeps slightly low and Dhoni tucks it away to long on for one. India 48/4 after 9 overs.

Over 8

Two runs off the first four balls.

OUT! Rohit Sharma is gone, run out. The suicide attempts have finally borne fruit. Back of a length outside off, lets it come on and pushes it to the right of point. Takes off for a single, takes on David Miller's arm, and he's a goner.

Raina tucks the ball into the leg side for one. India 44/3.

Over 7

Slower ball from Rabada, short, and Raina swivels to attempt a pull to fine leg. Plays it a bit too early and the ball loops to fine leg for one.

Ball pitches on a good length and takes off brilliantly, the keeper de Villiers has to jump full stretch to stop 4 byes. Called a wide.

Huge appeal for LBW as the ball seems to have taken a deflection and is caught by de Villiers down the leg side. Took Raina's bat on the way, but I think it bumped. Or maybe it was the sound of the bat hitting ground.

India 41/2 after 7 overs.

Over 6

Chris Morris, who could be mistaken for AB de Villiers from certain angles, continues.

A single to the deep brings Rohit back on strike.

The ball hits another crack as Rohit has a lazy waft outside off stump. The ball rises unexpectedly and Rohit looks flummoxed.

A single to end the over. India 35/2 after 6 overs.

Over 5

OUT! A run out now and Kohli has fallen. He is walking off. Out while trying to go for the second run. I think it was Dhawan's call. Kohli put in the sprawling dive but it wasn't enough. India 29/2.

Suresh Raina comes out to the middle.

Rohit late cuts/scoops the ball to wide third man for one.

Last ball is left alone. India 32/2 after 5 overs.

Over 4

Another inside edge for Dhawan, and a single is taken. Chris Morris is the new bowler. 4 bowlers in 4 overs.

Misfield from Rabada as Rohit flicks from middle stump to behind square. Allows a single.

FOUR. Rank bad ball, on the pads angling away, and Rohit just helps it quickly downhill for four.

Again the ball stays low after hitting a crack, but Sharma is able to get his bat down and run a single to mid on.

FOUR. Short outside off, Dhawan cracks it through point, and a misfield allows him his first real boundary.

OUT! Dhawan is gone. LBW. It looked like the ball pitched outside leg. Struck him on middle as he looked for the pickup shot over midwicket. Dubious decision. India 28/1 after 4 overs.

Over 3

Brilliant bouncer, Rohit Sharma had to take very quick evasive action as the ball rose awkwardly. Again a crack perhaps. Good ball from Rabada anyway.

Dhawan comes down the track but doesn't find the length to have a go, inside edges it on to the pad. That ball stayed curiously down. Strange pitch.

Just 4 from the over. India 16/0 after 3 overs.

Over 2

Imran Tahir has been introduced into the attack very early. First time opening the bowling in T20 internationals.

Rohit defends the first ball to short leg.

Wide second ball, and the keeper took off the bails before he collected the ball. Looked like hit wicket from the TV angle!

Tahir's ball erupts after pitching, and bounces onto the bottom of the bat awkwardly. Rohit plays it with such soft hands that he loses his bat. Looked ungainly but effective.

FOUR. The ball takes the outside edge of Dhawan's bat, who didn't move his feet. Goes for four behind the keeper.

India 12/0 after 2 overs.

Over 1

The first ball by Kyle Abbott is defended stoutly by Rohit Sharma.

The second ball is a wide.

FOUR. Short, wide and easy pace, and scooped over gully easily for four.

Quite wide and length again, this time Sharma tries to place it through point but the fielder stops the ball.

Shikhar Dhawan now on strike.

Almost yorker length first ball, Dhawan digs it out.

Oh....Rohit backed up too much and then went for the run. Short mid on was very quick. Rohit was in the way and the ball hit him, else he was gone.

Dhawan still to get off the mark. India 6/0 after 1 over.
