Durga Puja is very significant in West Bengal. During a five-day feast, Goddess Durga is honored for her victory over the evil Mahishasur. The Durga idols are taken to the river or the sea on Vijaydashmi, where the devotees say the Goddess farewell.

Huge pandals are built during Durga Puja where worshippers can pray, participate in the dhunuchi dance, and eat delicious bhogs.

In India, especially in Kullu, Dussehra is one of the most celebrated holidays. The city, however, observes the day in its own unique manner. The people perform Lanka-Dahan, in which they burn a collection of dry leaves and twigs, rather than burning the idol of Ravana, Kumbhkarana, and Meghnada.

In the rest of the nation, Dussehra signifies the conclusion of Navratri celebrations; however, in Kullu, Dussehra celebrations signal the start of the festivities. One of the main draws of the Kullu Dussehra celebration continues to be the dance performed to the rhythms of dhadaks and the notes of Narsingha trumpets.

The Mysore Dasara has been observed for more than 400 years with much enthusiasm. The demon Mahishasura, who was slain by Goddess Chamundeshwari on the tenth day of the Navratri Festival, or Vijayadashmi, gave the city of Mysuru its name.

The magnificently decorated Mysore Palace, the elephant ride, the military parades, and the numerous cultural performances make Mysore Dasara a favourite among tourists and worshippers.
