Vande Bharat Express or Train-18, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2019  with much fanfare, has registered a new record in the history of Indian Railways. 

India's first semi-high speed train, Train-18 began its first commercial journey on February 17 from New Delhi Railway Station to Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency. 

The train leaves the national capital at 6 am and its scheduled arrival time in Varanasi is 2 pm. On the same day, it leaves Varanasi at 3 pm and reaches Delhi at 11 pm. The Vande Bharat Express operates on five days in a week, except on Monday and Thursday.

Train 18, manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, became India's fastest train by hitting speeds of over 180 kmph during a trial run on a section of the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani route.

The train leaves Kanpur on an average 5 minutes late but reaches next stop, Allahabad, on time. The train leaves Allahabad 3 minutes late but reaches Varanasi Junction on time at 2 p.m.

Train-18 is not usually punctual while returning from Varanasi. The train leaves from Varanasi station on time but reaches Allahabad with 9 minutes average delay. Train 18 has diffused lighting, an on-board infotainment system with Wi-Fi, vacuum toilets, sliding doors besides a GPS-based passenger information system.
