'Prema Chandrama' is a good story gone awry

Film: Prema Chandrama
Director: Shahuraj Shinde
Voices: Raghu Mukherjee, Kiran Srinivas, Rekha
Rating: **

Certain stories look great on paper, but end up completely different on screen. Sometimes, it works in favour of the film, sometimes it doesn’t. Unfortunately for Prema Chandrama, this seems to be a case of the latter. For, Shahuraj Shinde had a great story, but his film doesn’t really live up to the promise.

The story revolves around Chetana (Rekha), a nurse. Vijay (Kiran Srinivas), who runs the hospital that Chetana works in, falls in love with her compassionate nature. He decides to let her know about the way he feels.

While doing so, he learns about a few ghosts of Chetana’s past, which includes the fact that she is a widow who was married to Sanjay (Raghu Mukherjee). The story is quite predictable from here on, where you get to see Sanjay return back in their life, albeit with a memory loss.

This movie, dealing with the sensitive issue of widow remarriage, could have been a clincher with the ‘family’ audience.

Unfortunately, it ends up being an amateur attempt. There are times when you cannot help but notice certain continuity glitches. While Raghu and Rekha have put in decent performances, Kiran could’ve lent a lot more life to his role. The rest of the cast, which includes Srinath, Sumithra and Umashree, have limited roles. This film could’ve worked wonders if it was made with a little more care.
