‘Miss Kaleidoscope’ is just 16!

Sarosh Nanavaty is the youngest contestant in five years to bag the college fest’s prestigious title

All of 16, she is very much the bubbly person that any girl her age would be. But one look at this FYJC student of Jai Hind College and you'll know that her talent is bound to shine through. Indeed, for Sarosh Nanavaty, music has always been a way of life and continues to be so.

The young prodigy reiterated this by becoming the youngest contestant in five years to win the prestigious title of 'Miss Kaleidoscope' at the recently concluded Sophia College festival.

The festival, Kaleidoscope, saw her battle it out in three different categories, be it 'literary arts', 'fine arts' or 'performing arts'. Says her proud mother Aban Nanavaty, "I might sound immodest, but the truth is that Sarosh has done a commendable job, for this was not just a singing contest but a hunt for an all-round performer."

As for Sarosh, she cannot stop smiling. "It's a great feeling indeed. I always knew I'd make it to the top five, but I was not so sure of winning the contest as the competition was stiff. But then again, that's what made the victory taste sweeter!" she gushes.
Summing up the overall experience she says, "In this fest, I penned a script, sang my favourite songs and played the piano. Needless to say, I had a ball throughout. And what's more, my victory helped my college garner a precious forty eight points to bag the first prize!" What according to her clinched her much-coveted title? "It would have to be my songs, 'Leaving On A Jet Plane' and 'I Will Survive' which got the crowd and even the judges grooving!"

Adds Dipti Rao, member of the organising committee for Kaleidoscope, "Sarosh's performance was impressive right from the start, which is why it came as no surprise when she was announced as the winner! But for this ambitious gal, the journey has just begun.

"I always had an ear for music and this college fest was a great platform for me to display my talent. I now plan to take lessons in music to hone my talent and participate in many more such festivals. Hopefully, one day, I'll cut an album," concludes the effervescent gal.
