1.Not blind since birth
Poorna was 25-years-old when she cracked the Civil Service exam. She belongs to Madurai in Tamil Nadu. Poorna was not blind since birth. However, after turning five years old, her eyesight continued to weaken. After some time, both her eyes lost vision.
2.How she prepared
She said, ‘In preparation, I took the help of the study material available in audio format. Apart from this, the help of speaking software was also taken in laptop. My parents read the books to me. Apart from this, my friends and seniors supported me a lot."
3.Parents' support
During a conversation with news agency ANI, she said, ‘My parents supported me a lot. I would like to give credit for this success to them. This was my fourth attempt. I took 5 years to prepare for this exam.
4.Secured AIR 286
Poorna Sunthari of Tamil Nadu secured 286th rank in UPSC Civil Services Examination 2019 in her 4th attempt.
