“No” to tuitions, is what binds the toppers
Is there one thing that toppers of the ICSE, ISC and CBSE examinations have in common? Yes, an aversion to special tuitions. Most of them agree that there is no need for additional tuition to perform well in these examinations.

“I don’t think there is any need for attending tuitions to perform well in the board exams. One just needs to go through what is taught at school periodically and prepare well prior to the exams,” says Abhishek A, who secured 90 per cent in his grade 12 exams from National Public School, Rajajinagar.

Did any of them get special coaching for the board examinations? No way. “I didn’t take tuitions for any subject. Basically, we just need to pay attention to what is taught in class and put in some hard work,” said Nithyashri Govindarajan, who secured 97.57 per cent in ICSE from Sri Kumaran Children’s Home.

The toppers agree that proper time management is necessary; that sitting with books too long is unproductive. “I would draw up a time-table to help me balance studies effectively with other activities,” said Utsav Rai, who secured 96.8 per cent in ICSE from Shishu Griha school.

According to Chaitra GV, who secured 92.57 per cent in ICSE from St Ann’s School, tuitions cannot replace paying attention to what is taught in class.

“I think concentrating in class will bear better results than attending tuitions,” she added.
